The raw food diet is an excellent way to ensure your dog has the best health possible and the raw food diet is completely safe for dogs* as long as your get your raw food from a safe, reputable supplier.

Once you’ve found a brand of food you’re happy with and your order has arrived your need to make sure to keep things clean! You are handling raw meat after all. Because this is so important we’ve put together a guide of how to handle and prepare your pet’s raw meals:

Storage
It’s very important to store your raw meals safely. Keep them sealed in the package or in an airtight container in the freezer and do not refreeze.

How to defrost
You can either defrost your raw food in the fridge overnight or at room temperature. When defrosting in the fridge allow approximately 12 hours for a meal size portion. If you’re defrosting at room temperate make sure it’s in a clean container or your pet’s bowl (which should also be clean).

Washing Up
Just as you would if you were cooking meat for you or your family make sure to wash your hands and utensils before and after handling raw dog food.

Throw it away
Make sure to dispose of all packaging, and wipe down all surfaces.

Don’t leave it out
Don’t leave uneaten food out for longer than 1 hour, or 30 minutes on a hot day. If it remains uneaten cover it and refrigerate for later that day. Throw away uneaten raw food 24 hours after it’s been defrosted.
